Affiliate Marketing is a revenue sharing venture between a website owner and an online merchant. The website owner will place advertisements on his websites to either help sell the merchant's products or to send potential customers to the merchant's website, all in exchange for a share of the profits.
Hundreds of online retailers (the 'merchant') are willing to pay web developers (the 'affiliate') a commision for promoting their products and services. Whilst it is possible to join affiliation schemes direct with online merchants, the more affiliations you have, the more difficult and time consuming it becomes to keep track of all your affiliations. This is where affiliate networks come into their own. Affiliate networks act as the middle men. Online merchants list their information, links and banners via an affiliate network and web developers (affiliates) join the affiliate network (for free). Affiliates are able to monitor commission payments in one convenient manageable location. Everyone's happy!
