A garden party is simply a party or gathering held outside in your garden, patio or other outdoor space. You can throw a garden party for a variety of reasons. Set the scene outside with seasonal decor, appetizers, beverages, music and lighting. Use the following instructions to throw a successful garden party:
Invite guests with a themed invitation. Specify a dress code if desired, or leave it blank for a range of casual outdoor attire.Tidy and manicure the garden. Mow the lawn and plant new blooming flowers in the beds. Wipe down any tables and chairs, and clean any upholstered furniture.Set up umbrellas and shade for a daytime party, and outside lighting (and heaters if necessary) for an evening party. Use fairy lights or paper lanterns around patio umbrellas, and set out lanterns, candles or torches.Decide on food themes and serving styles. BBQ’s and buffets work best for mingling. Appetisers / canapés and cocktails suffice for non-meal party times, such as mid-afternoon or late evening party.Designate an outdoor bar area, with jugs of mixed drinks as well as easy-access bottles. Use real wine glasses and barware, or clear non-breakable plastic.Prepare food in advance and store inside the house until moments before guests are expected to arrive.Move speakers outside to play subtle music. If children are attending, hire a bouncy castle or some outdoor games to keep them entertained. If children are entertained, parents have more time for you!
Lighting and lanterns make for great garden party decorations. Scatter tealights around your garden, float lily lights in your pond and suspend battery lanterns from bushes and trees. Outdoor fairy lights are perfect but if you can't run any power outside (or don't want to run cables around your garden), battery operated fairy lights are a great alternative and look fantastic wrapped around parasols and placing in plants and trees. Two of the best retailers of party lights in the UK are Lights4fun and Festive Lights.
Many games are traditionally played at garden parties. Outdoor Giant Games are great fun for all the family at a summer garden party and include games such as Jenga, Connect 4, Chess and Snakes & Ladders but in giant format! Other fun outdoor garden game ideas include Lawn Crocquet, Sack Racing, Dominoes and Card Games. Visit Party Packs to view their full range of Garden Games.
