Keep an open mind and try on plenty of different styles and colours. Lots of dresses have very little 'hanger appeal' but they look fabulous on, so do listen to suggestions from the sales assistants - they know what styles suit what shapes and their knowledge of bridal fashion will be unrivalled.
It's important to start shopping for your wedding gown approx 12 months in advance of the wedding as most companies require at least six months lead time to make the dress. The only exception here is if you are planning to lose weight, in which case you will want to buy something that suits your new shape.

Several UK department stores offer bridal collections and stock designer dresses including John Lewis, Bhs and Debenhams. Marks & Spencer also stock a range of bridal wear, shoes and lingerie.
Buying your dress outside of the UK can often save you hundreds of pounds. This is a great option if you know the style of dress you want and you don't need to try on the dress beforehand. It's also worth noting that you may be liable for import duty when shipping into UK from overseas.
