Etiquette states that wedding invitations should be sent out six weeks before the big day. From a practical perspective, it is best to send out your day time invitations first, as this allows evening-only guests to be 'upgraded' to fill any spare seats created by declines. We suggest sending daytime invitations nine weeks before, allowing a two-week RSVP window, and then the evening invitations at the six week mark.
Save the date cards are an excellent way of ensuring that your most important guests are available to celebrate with you. These can be sent out as soon as you have booked your venue, and this is a particularly good idea if your wedding day falls on a bank holiday or within key holiday seasons.
There are many websites that offer a personalised invitation service where you can enter personal information online and upload your own photographs and images. Some of the best wedding stationers in the UK include Confetti, Planet Cards, Celebrations Plus, Online Wedding Shop and Find me a Gift. All offer stationery packs for creating your own beautiful handcrafted wedding invitations.
Or, if you're on a budget and you have a little imagination, why not make your own invitations? You'll need paper, glue and decorations available from good craft shops. Visit My Craft Shop, they have a great range and offer worldwide delivery. Also visit Confetti, the Do It Your Way section at Celebrations Plus and Find Me a Gift offer a range of paper, envelopes, boxes, rubber stamps and wax seals.
